Hi everyone, I hope you are well. The Osmanthus are blooming, and so everywhere smells delicious. I’ve been working away at my tarot project still, which doesn’t leave me much space to work on larger work, but I did recently have the opportunity to work on a commission piece.

You can see her original reference drawing, a topographical map of St. Louis and its rivers. I like how close I was able to achieve that imagery with something so simple as the blanket stitch, and how if you didn’t know what you were looking at, it could just as easily appear to be a celestial body perhaps.

Here are some process shots:

It really just is layering the blanket stitch. Layer up, Layer Down.

Embroidery, but dot matrix style

It was a fun opportunity and challenge. If you’re a curly haired friend of mine in Tokyo and you’re reading this, I’m working on something for you next! If you know, you know.

If you are interested in seeing my process for this piece, as well as a few video explanations of how I use the blanket stitch, I would recommend checking out this Post first. In it I talk about my basic technique and tools. My process and video explanations are kind of like my virtual studio, for those around the world, and until I can have a real public space. If you bring me a coffee to my studio, I’m happy to invite you in and share what I’m working on. You can read more about why how you can support my work and have access to the behind the scenes here.

If you’d like to pop in, learn some practical techniques to use in your own practice, enjoy some ASMR ish sewing inspiration perhaps, or use the private chat feature to ask me any trouble shooting questions or just to say hi, then come on in!
